SAVE SEA TURTLES ACTION AND RESCUE - STAR

At Lumen School, our ProBleu project has inspired meaningful and engaging learning experiences related to marine biodiversity and water conservation. Our students have been investigating how local rivers impact the sea and the importance of protecting aquatic life. One of the highlights was a field trip to a nearby stream, where students collected water quality data and observed local wildlife. Afterwards, we were visited by a biologist who introduced them to native aquatic species. This activity was supported by Taigua, Funbrain, and the Terrassa City Council, and helped deepen students’ understanding of local biodiversity and the need to protect aquatic ecosystems. We also visited the CRAM and the Barcelona Aquarium, where students observed turtles and other marine animals, and reflected on the threats they face due to pollution. At the Port of Mataró, we studied the waste washed up on the beaches, including plastic, fishing nets, and other harmful debris. Throughout the project, we've welcomed inspiring experts and researchers like Isabel Forner and Sylvia Earle both from CSIC, and Núria Salán and Eva Vidal from ESEIAAT-UPC, who shared their work and passion for science and the environment. On World Water Day, we celebrated alongside our Erasmus+ exchange students from Poland, participating in collaborative activities to raise awareness about water conservation and marine biodiversity. We've also used ProBleu educational kits to build simple water filters and model the water cycle. One of our greatest successes has been the high level of student engagement, our pupils are curious, motivated, and eager to take action. A small challenge has been adapting some materials for younger students, but we’ve created simplified resources and interactive games to support their learning. We’re currently preparing a special school event to share our learning on marine life and pollution, combining science and art to raise community awareness. We invite you to view our activities.
