O2Us

The O2Us (Ocean to Us) project aims to promote marine literacy. We propose to carry out field and laboratory activities, fostering and bringing to school the historical relationship of the community with the sea/estuary, and repaying it with knowledge that increases awareness about the services provided by ecosystems. The focus on local knowledge and resources creates a motivational force anchored in a sense of belonging and protection. The research projects address biodiversity and the maintenance of seagrass meadows and microalgae production, with the support of universities and local aquaculture producers. We will also promote recreational/educational marine activities. Inside the school, art installations and exhibitions will remind the community of the ocean as a topic of debate on a daily basis. The results of the research, followed by the students, and other related news will be disseminated on the school radio (Blue World Minute) and on social networks and exhibitions. In this way, we train citizens capable of making informed decisions.
