Fun Fact! The white cliffs of Dover in England are made from the fossilised remains of microscopic plankton called coccolithophores. Over millions of years, these tiny organisms died and their calcite plates, known as coccoliths, accumulated on the seafloor, compacting and hardening into the chalk that forms the cliffs.
