Why is this a serious problem? When there's too much noise pollution, sea animals can suffer in different ways: They might not hear each other's calls for finding mates or staying with their group They can't hear the sounds that help them find food They might get stressed and confused, swimming away from good feeding areas Very loud sounds can actually damage their hearing or even cause internal injuries Scientists have found that when shipping stopped during the COVID lockdowns, many sea creatures became more active and vocal because the oceans were quieter.
