SEA LEVEL RISE Sea levels are rising at an ever-increasing rate, either due to the thermal expansion of the sea resulting from rising temperatures or the loss of land ice. BIODIVERSITY MARINE HEATWAVES Climate change is already having a significant impact on many species and marine ecosystems, many of them irreversible. Marine heat waves refer to very sudden and transient rises in the temperature of sea water. Its frequency has more than doubled in recent decades and its impacts have been devastating on marine life and, in particular, on the death of corals. OCEAN ACIDIFICATION The CO2 absorbed by the Ocean has led to a decrease in pH, with serious consequences for marine animals with skeleton shells and shells, such as molluscs and corals.
