RISE IN SEA LEVEL Sea levels are rising at an ever-increasing rate, both due to thermal expansion of the sea resulting from rising temperatures and due to the loss of land ice. BIODIVERSITY MARINE HEAT WAVES Climate change is already having a notable impact on many species and marine ecosystems, many of which are irreversible. Marine heat waves refer to very sudden and transient increases in seawater temperature. Their frequency has more than doubled in recent decades, and their impacts have been devastating on marine life, particularly coral death.. OCEAN ACIDIFICATION The CO2 absorbed by the Ocean has led to a decrease in pH, with serious consequences for marine animals with shells, skeletons and carapaces, such as mollusks and corals.
